Solar Bright Future
Funded by: Islamic Development Bank and International Labor Organization
The Solar Bright Future project is a transformative initiative that aims to contribute to a green transition and rebuilding efforts in crisis-torn communities in Cameroon.
The project focuses on training young women and men from internally displaced and host communities in solar system design, installation, and maintenance. These trainees are also organized into a social enterprise called Solar Bright Solutions which is dedicated to providing solar energy services and products specifically tailored to off-grid rural communities. As part of its activities, Solar Bright Solutions electrify off-grid rural health center maternities.
By combining skills training, social entrepreneurship, and sustainable energy solutions, the Solar Bright Future project contributes to foster green economic growth and decent job creation, a transition to a Low-Carbon Economy, improve healthcare service delivery, is paving the way for a greener and more resilient future.
Currently, the solar bright future project has trained and equipped 50 crisis affected youths aged 18 to 35 (60% male, 40% female, 80% internally displaced persons, 20% host community members and 4% persons with disability) as solar system technicians.
To realize this, we have partnered with the College of Technology of the University of Bamenda, GreenTech Engineering Services and the Regional Delegation of Employment and Vocational training to develop a market driven curriculum that meet the needs of the industry and government requirements in Cameroon
We have also partnered with the National Employment Fund (NEF) to offer continuous support and mentorship to trainees after their graduation.
The Solar bright Future project currently receives support from the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB)
The solar bright future project is not just a project; it is a commitment to a safer and brighter future.
